August 6

Today Rob and Jake surprised me by showing up at my class. Jake had a Neurology appointment so they decided to come for lunch. My students were soooooo excited to meet Jake and he kept giving them hugs.
After we came back from lunch, the kids were all bummed that Jake had left. I took the time to explain to them that Jake understands thing differently. They loved how he wanted to hug them all, but didn't understand why he was taller than them, yet didn't talk to them. I explained that he had been sick, but even though he was different he was still fun and special. My hope is that I can continue to teach my students that everyone is special and it is okay to be different.

Just looking at my class, you can see the diversity. Teaching my students to respect eachother is a HUGE part of my job. Nothing makes me prouder than to know that I can not only teach my students academics, but how to be kind as well.

  1. Your classroom looks great, and all your students are adorable. Jake fits right in with your first graders. You would never know he was there except for his shock of white hair.
