July 2 Vacation

What a crazy day! It started off with taking Jake to summer school and Ry to VBS. Then Donna came over and watched Luke so Rob and I could go to Jake's 4th of July parade at school. He was so proud as he marched around the school with his class. This was Jake's last day of summer school since we were leaving for vacation and it has been so good for him. His teacher was great and she is going to be his Kinder teacher next year, which is an added bonus. Plus some of the kids in his class will be in his Kinder class next year. Mostly, Rob and I see his confidence continuing to build. I am so proud of my boy and anxious to see how he does next year in Kinder. After we left the parade, Rob and I got home, packed the car, picked up Ry and then headed back down to pick Jake up.
Then our vacation officially began. We have been planning this trip to Iowa for months. We decided to drive because the boys do not handle flying well and we did not want to be limited in our packing. The idea was that if meltdowns happened it would be in the comfort of our car rather than in a crowded plane or airport. We also wanted the kids to be as comfortable as possible. And, the idea of getting all the kids medication through security was not appealing to me. So, we loaded up and got on the road. I thought the kids would do alright, but never expected it to go so extremely well. We drove 11 hours and covered 4 states: California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah and ended up in Grand Junction, Colorado. The kids watched movies, played and slept. We got into our hotel 1:30 am Colorado time (12:30 CA time). After getting Luke's breathing treatments done, everyone was in bed asleep. I could not have asked for a better start to our vacation.
