July 9 Vacation

The Deboef campout officially began today and the kids fit right in. We all met at the campsite for dinner and it was so much fun seeing the family I already knew and meeting new family that I had never met. Luke was a definite charmer and had pretty much everyone smiling. His laughter was contagious and I was grateful the family could see his amazing spirit.
We were worried about Jake and how he would handle all the commotion. He shut down immediately when he saw all the strange faces, but Rob's Uncle Ken wore him down. After awhile Ken got Jake playing baseball and all was good. It is so fun for me to see someone that has the patience to warm up to Jake and get that super-star smile.
Everyone sat around to a delicious dinner and chatted.
Jake even sat on Grandma Deboef's lap for a picture.
Ry was at home from the beginning. She immediately started playing with her second cousins Emily and Tommy. You would have thought she knew them her whole life. Unfortunately the night did not end on the best note. Jake did get over tired and over stimulated, which means HUGE meltdown. Rob and I once again had to tag-team Jake and get a screaming, kicking kid into the car. Rob's family all seemed pretty understanding, which I am so grateful for. I feel bad because I knew Jake was getting in way over his head, but it is so difficult not to get angry when you are being called "stupid" and getting pounded on. I am hoping after a good night sleep, Jake and all the kids will have a great day tomorrow. The campout festivities officially begin in the morning.
