July 13 Vacation

Today was our final day in Iowa and we spent the morning packing and getting organized. Pearl and Ron were so gracious to let us stay at their house the entire time we were in Iowa. It quickly became our home away from home. It was really nice to have a quiet place to take the kids when they or Rob and I were feeling overwhelmed.
After getting all packed up we went to the campground for some final goodbyes. It was really good for Rob to get to see and spend some time with his grandma and grandpa.

Luke decided to perk up once we got there and was all smiles. Tyler and Aunt Pearl helped him on the skateboard, which he loved.

And Ry said some final goodbyes to her cousins. She really did seem like she knew them her whole life. Rob and I had a blast, but Ry really loved the whole experience. It was so fun watching her.

We went from the campground to Grandma Grandia's house to say our final goodbyes there. We drove up to find her and Aunt Jan relaxing on the porch, a favorite spot.

Then, we drove out to Sheri and Craig's house for one last time. On the drive I was so overcome by the beauty of the clear, blue sky and fluffy, white clouds. I love the incredible landscapes of Iowa.
Craig was nice enough to get a sheep to show the kids. Jake was trying to hold it, but had trouble getting a hold of it.
Sheri and Craig's was our last stop before hotting the road. This vacation has been fabulous, but exhausting. We are going on very little sleep and it has been emotionally draining. After staying up late and packing, Rob's eyes were feeling heavy, so I took the wheel. Rob took a picture as evidence that yes, I did drive.
By the end of the trip we will have gone through 12 different states and so far they have all been beautiful. Today we went from Iowa to Missouri to Kansas. The sky was amazing, but I had trouble getting a good picture because of the trees. God really created an amazing planet using a spectacular palette of colors. I am really enjoying this road trip and seeing different parts of the country.
