When we arrived at the Grand Canyon, we fully intended to do some exploring and sightseeing the next day. Unfortunately, Luke had a different idea. At 2:30 he woke up with a fever and heavy, raspy, quick breaths. An hour later and after two breathing treatments his breathing did not sound much better. It was one of those times that if we had been home would have taken him to the ER. At that time Rob and I decided to get ready, pack up and head home. We woke the kids up at 4 (luckily they were still on IA time, 6 am) got them dressed and was on the road by 4:50 am. We were bummed to be missing the beautiful sights, but now know it is a place we would like to revisit :-). Luke slept most of the way home and I gave him three more breathing treatments in the car. The plan was to head straight to Loma Linda, but after the breathing treatments and sleep, Luke looked much better. Fearing hours in the ER and the always possibility of hospitalization, we decided to go home and take him to the urgent care in the morning.

After a quick stop by Target to refill one of Luke's breathing treatments we were home. I haven't seen the kids that
happy in two weeks. To say Jake was
excited would be an understatement. They immediately ran to their playroom and Luke was happy to have free reign of the house. Ry went and grabbed her hat and informed us that she was going to be a farmer when she grows up. I think Iowa had the most impact on her and gave her a lot of really amazing memories.

My parents were leaving for the river that day, so my mom came by to see the kids for a minute. Luke
squealed and
laughed and then
squealed some more. You never would have thought we left the Grand Canyon earlier because he was soooo sick. It was nice to see the kids so happy. And even better, Jake did not throw one tantrum
ALL day! Rob and I were tired and enjoyed letting the kids play and sitting. It really is good to be home!
